Uploading Documents

HAQQ Legal AI gives you three places to put a document: a chat, a project, or the Data Room. The one you pick decides how many files you can bring, which conversations can read them, and how long they stay.

How you add filesAttach from the composer, and keep adding as the conversation goesFrom the project's Files section, or while you create the projectUpload into a storage folder from the Attach Files picker

The Attach Files picker takes the same file types wherever you use it: PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CSV, HTML, Markdown, plain text and common image formats. A file attached to a chat or a project is indexed after upload and moves from pending to processing to ready. The assistant only reads files marked ready.

Chat: for the question in front of you

Attach a file from the composer’s + menu, or drop it onto the composer. It never goes inline in your message. It lands in the chat’s own store, Chat Files, which is created the first time you add something.

You don’t need everything up front. Ask about the contract, then attach the side letter when the answer raises it. Each follow-up adds to the same chat’s files, and the assistant reads every one of them that is ready.

A chat works best for one question about the documents in front of you.

Each chat holds a set number of files, fixed by your plan. Reaching it usually means the work has outgrown a single conversation. A standalone chat’s context panel offers Add to Project and Create new Project, so you can move it without starting over.

Projects: for a matter that keeps growing

A project is the home for a case, a deal or a client. Its Files section is a library that every chat in the project reads, so the pleadings and the correspondence go in once, not once per conversation.

The library is sized for a whole matter, not a single conversation. Add documents as they arrive, and every chat in the project, whether you started it today or start it next month, can draw on them. Project instructions (governing law, the parties, house style) apply to every chat too, and on workspaces with eFirm you can link the matter, its contacts and other records as context.

To move an existing chat into a project, drag it onto the project in the sidebar on web, or use Move to project in the chat options on mobile.

Data Room: for volume

The Data Room is your workspace’s document storage: the categories and folders you browse in the Attach Files picker, including My Personal Files. It holds collections too large for any one conversation, such as the firm’s precedents or the full set behind a due diligence.

The Data Room holds the collections no single conversation could.

Everything stored there is indexed so the assistant can search it. Ask runs one question across the whole Data Room at once, rather than across the handful of files attached to a chat. When the assistant searches your workspace’s knowledge, the results appear in the conversation as a Knowledge Search card, split into company, team, personal and public sources. Personal files stay private to you, and nothing crosses from one workspace to another.

Storage, the maximum file size, whether Ask draws on credits, and how long files are kept all depend on your plan. See Subscription plans. If your workspace runs eFirm, files in its Documents module are indexed the same way; see Legal Libraries.

Which one to use

  • One document, one question, today: a chat.
  • You will come back to it, or several conversations need the same documents: a project.
  • A collection you want searchable across every matter: the Data Room.
  • A chat that has reached its file limit: move it into a project.

They work together. A typical matter keeps the firm’s precedents in the Data Room, the matter’s own documents in its project, and the draft that just arrived from the other side in the chat where you are discussing it.
