Global Configurations
Global Configurations holds the option lists — statuses, types, priorities, categories — that populate dropdowns across eFirm, plus the firm's own currencies and conversion rates.
What it configures
A left-hand list of entity groups — Contacts, Tasks, Legal Matters, Leads, Hearings, Calendar, Files, Training and Financial — each showing a running count of how many options it holds. Selecting a group opens its configuration cards on the right, and the selected group is reflected in the URL, so a specific group can be linked to directly. Contacts is the default group when none is specified.
Each group renders one card per configuration type it contains. Legal Matters, for example, shows Court, Matter Status, Specialization, Category, Sector and Representation Type as separate cards, each listing its own options with a count badge.
Default vs custom options
Default (preset) options — firm-wide options the system ships with — carry a "Default" badge, are shown first in every list, and cannot be edited, deleted or otherwise changed. Custom options, the ones a firm has added itself, show edit and delete actions to users who can manage global configurations.
Color-backed types — statuses, priorities, several label types, and the training category — show a color swatch on each row and expose a color picker when adding or editing. A search box appears on a card once its list grows past roughly 15 items, filtering by name; very long lists are windowed so the page stays responsive. An empty type shows a short "no options yet" message, and a search with no matches shows a distinct message of its own.
Training categories
Training category rows carry an extra proof required switch, toggled inline without opening a dialog, and also settable from the add/edit dialog itself. The switch is only interactive for custom categories — it stays locked on default categories, whoever is looking at it.
Adding and editing an option
The add/edit dialog asks for a name — required, and Save is blocked until one is entered — plus a color picker for color-backed types and a proof-required switch for training categories.
Currencies
The Financial group carries a dedicated currencies card instead of an option list: every currency the firm has added, shown with its code, name and conversion rate.
| Action | What happens |
|---|---|
| Default currency | Starred and labelled as the base currency — its rate isn't shown, because everything else is quoted against it. It cannot be edited, re-defaulted or deleted. |
| Add a currency | Pick from standard world currencies (already-added ones are filtered out) and enter a positive conversion rate against the default currency. Blocked until both are valid. |
| Edit a rate | The currency itself is read-only in this dialog; only its conversion rate can change, with a hint describing which direction the conversion runs. The rate must be a positive number. |
| Set as default | Reassigns the base currency and restates every other currency's rate against the new base. |
| Delete a currency | Removes a non-default currency after a confirmation step. |
Who can change it
Any firm user who can reach the page can view it. Adding, editing, deleting, toggling proof-required, and every currency action are limited to users who can manage global configurations — without that access, the page is fully read-only and no Add, Edit or Delete control renders at all.
- Deleting a custom option and deleting a currency both ask for confirmation first.
- Every other change — add, edit, the proof-required toggle, set-default, a rate edit — applies as soon as it is submitted.
Where to go next
Global Configurations is the foundation the rest of eFirm's setup draws from — see Settings and Customizations for how it fits alongside the other setup tabs, and Financial for how a matter's currency and billing details come together on an invoice. Which fields a record actually captures, and the pipeline it moves through, is configured separately — on the Sections & Stages page.
